Caicedo studies how plants adapt to novel environments such as those created by agriculture. Her research focuses on the domestication of crops, such as tomatoes, and the evolution of agricultural weeds, such as weedy rice. Caicedo, who is an Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA), was given the opportunity to spend time in Tübingen where she will visit the Department of Molecular Biology led by Detlef Weigel, Executive Director at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology.
The Humboldt Research Award honors scientists and researchers who have already distinguished themselves through their fundamental findings during their scientific career and from whom further important achievements can be expected in the future.
